Beg Steal or Borrow by Ray Lamontagne and the Pariah Dogs

SONG OF THE DAY

“Beg, Steal or Borrow” by Ray Lamontagne and the Pariah Dogs (God Willin’ and the Creek Don’t Rise, RCA, 2010). Written by Ray Lamontagne.

WHERE I HEARD IT

I’ve been listening to WNHU 88.7 pretty much all day every day at work and home and in the car, so I get to hear this song every day during Kristen Bayusik’s radio slot, and I totally love it! It’s like having a great mix cd in the car with me! You’d think I’d tire of it, but (a) it’s very well-curated, (b) she does switch up a few tracks every week, (c) it takes a lot to tire me of a musician or song. If I am remembered as anything, remember me as someone who was capable and often listened to the same song on repeat for two-days straight.

INTERESTING FACTS (a la wikipedia)

– God Willin’ & The Creek Don’t Rise is singer-songwriter Ray LaMontagne’s fourth full-length release, which was released on August 17, 2010.

– As the story goes, LaMontagne had a job at a shoe factory where he worked 65 hours a week. One morning at 4 a.m., LaMontagne heard Stephen Stills’ song “Treetop Flyer” on the radio as it awoke him for an early work shift. After purchasing the album Stills Alone, LaMontagne decided that he wanted to quit his job at the shoe factory and start a career as a singer-songwriter.

– In 2008, LaMontagne moved into a farmhouse in Phillips, Maine that once belonged to author Norman Mailer.

– LaMontagne refers to himself as a “very private person”, and rarely gives interviews. He also usually does not interact much with the audience between songs during his live shows and has been known to perform in the dark to separate himself from the audience. [Oh, wikipedia, how can I believe you? Alack, alack, alack, I will post your probably falsehoods anyways.]
