Que Sera Sera – Sly & the Family Stone

SONG OF THE DAY

“Que Sera Sera” by Sly & The Family Stone (Fresh, Epic Records, 1973). Written by Jay Livingston and Ray Evans.

WHERE I HEARD IT

A great new show on ABC called “Detroit 1-8-7”, which I’ve blogged about before for having a killer soundtrack in its pilot episode, featured this ULTIMATE COVER in its fifth episode “Murder in Greektown; High School Confidential”. Ch-ch-check it out!

INTERESTING FACTS (a la wikipedia)

– In 2003, Fresh was ranked number 186 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time.

– The song was introduced in Alfred Hitchcock’s 1956 film The Man Who Knew Too Much, with Doris Day and James Stewart in the lead roles.

– Day’s recording of the song for Columbia Records was a hit in both the United States— where it made it to #2 on the Billboard charts—and the United Kingdom.

– The song received the 1956 Academy Award for Best Original Song with the alternative title “Whatever Will Be, Will Be (Que Sera, Sera)”. It was the third Oscar in this category for Livingston and Evans, who previously won in 1948 and 1950.
