INTERESTING FACTS (from wikipedia)
– Born the day before me in the year of me!! (aka the year of Thriller)
– Mangan is a Canadian indie folk-rock singer-songwriter. Based out of Vancouver, he has released two full-length albums – Postcards and Daydreaming in 2007 and Nice, Nice, Very Nice in 2009.
– Mangan was born in Smithers, British Columbia, but was raised in Ontario. His father was a lawyer, while his mother was an ex-minister. As a child, Mangan versed himself in his parents’ old vinyls of The Beatles, Nick Drake and Van Morrison. By seven years old, his step brother had taught him how to play most of Abbey Road in proper succession on the piano. Mangan has said he bought his first record at the age of 10, Aerosmith’s Get a Grip. He was a fan of the Dave Matthews Band and began to be interested in acoustic recordings with the release of Nirvana’s Unplugged album. At sixteen, he started a band called Basement Suite with some fellow classmates and played gigs at local community centres. Basement Suite would be Mangan’s introduction to the stage.
– In 2003, at 20 years old, Mangan released his first acoustic EP, All at Once, pressing 500 copies which were given away and sold throughout the Vancouver area. Then, with a bank loan and a small community of musicians who would offer cheap or free sessions, Mangan recorded Postcards and Daydreaming in the summer of 2005 with local British ex-pat Daniel Elmes and good friend Simon Kelly.
– In July 2007, Vancouver-based independent record label FUM re-released the album with new artwork and an extra track, “Ash Babe”, in Canada. Later that year, FUM released Postcards and Daydreaming in the United States as well. The following March, the record was released in Australia by ABC/Warner. The album drew him early comparisons to Damien Rice.
– The album name was inspired by a line from American novelist Kurt Vonnegut, while musically Nice, Nice, Very Nice has compared to Chad Vangaalen, Bon Iver and Radiohead.
– Mangan has toured with such artists as Elliott Brood, The Acorn, Patrick Watson, and Hey Rosetta!.
