SONG OF THE DAY
“Songbird” by Christine McVie. Written by Christine McVie.
MY TAKE
I heard an acoustic (possibly live) version of this song on 105.9 The River’s Acoustic After Dark program two nights ago. This program is seriously the bane of my existence because they play amazing versions of songs ALL THE TIME, and never say what they are, who’s singing it, when it was recorded, what album it’s on, nothing, nada, zilch. I can often tell that it’s not the original artist or that it’s a live recording, but am often left disappointed after about an hour on amazon and iTunes because I can never find exactly the track this dumb/ awesome radio station chose to tempt me with. And I’ve emailed them on three separate occasions asking for playlists and more information, but I never hear back. I used to be in touch with the DJ’s all the time back when I was listening to Detroit metro-area radio, it was a nice, symbiotic relationship, so it’s especially frustrating now to be ignored and for my questions about songs to be deemed “not important enough”.
This specific time, at least they said Christine McVie was the performer, I’m usually left guessing there. And I can safely say from listening on youtube.com to many live performances of this song that the one the radio station played was an early recording, as she sounded younger than she does in 90’s and 00’s live concerts. I’m thinking it is a recording around the time when Fleetwood Mac in their heyday. Wikipedia tells me that “Songbird” is used as the encore of many Fleetwood Mac concerts, and since it was off an early album, Rumours (1977), that leaves the world pretty much wide open  in the 1970’s or 1980’s when this version I heard could be from. The worst part is that i don’t know if it’s studio acoustic or live.
So, here’s what I’ve got for you: no information about album, year, no video of the actual performance I am referring to, no nothing. ENJOY YOUR NOTHING!!
