Wedding Playlists Part 4: Dinner Music

IMG_0416Ah, the barely notices Cocktail/ Dinner Transition Hour playlist. My aspirations for this list is that it would give a vintage party vibe, a little more amped up than the last playlist but not without the feeling of time travel:

  1. Make You Feel My Love – Adele  3:32 – First discovered by watching So You Think You Can Dance. Incidentally, this is originally a Bob Dylan song. Weird to anyone? It’s not vintage Dylan though, so maybe why it doesn’t make any sense in his classic oeuvre. It’s 1990’s comeback Dylan, aka not Dylan.
  2. A Penny A Kiss – A Penny A Hug – The Andrews Sisters  3:00 – Such a cute song!
  3. Giving You The Best That I Got – Anita Baker  4:17 – I originally wanted to sing this to Todd, but I just couldn’t do it. Too weepy.
  4. All Because of You – Bill Withers  3:51 – We’ll be using this song in the editing of our video.
  5. White Wedding – Bradford Truby Trio  4:17 – Great jazz cover of a classic wedding song! Lol.
  6. I Get A Kick Out Of  You – Ella Fitzgerald  4:02 – I was in Anything Goes and Kiss Me, Kate in high school, so I’m a LITTLE bit into Cole Porter. As if you couldn’t tell from the cocktail playlist of yesterday. And the next song….
  7. You’re The Top – Ella Fitzgerald  3:36 – Cole Portah!
  8. You Can’t Get A Man With A Gun – Ethel Merman  3:12  -Mama used to play this cassette over and over when we were kiddos; she loves her Annie Get Your Gun!
  9. We Are In Love – Harry Connick, Jr.  2:44 – OOh, favorite Harry original, from the CD Kelly Atto gave me at the Melodies Christmas party in high school.
  10. I Could Write A Book – Harry Connick, Jr.  2:30 – My all-time favorite Harry song, from the When Harry Met Sally soundtrack he did in the 1990s.This video is ridiculous, but you try searching youtube.com for this song, and you’ll see the 10 terrible videos of people doing basement studio versions of this song. It’s bad, youtube.com. It’s bad.
  11. All I Want – Herbie Hancock Feat. Sonya Kitchell  4:15 – Eek, better than the original, sorry Joni. You know I love you. I almost changed the spelling of my name for you. But do you hear this girl singing your song? It’s gold, right?Second favorite version is live from Miles of Aisles, video below:
  12. ‘s   Wonderful – Joe Williams with Count Basie  2:39 – LOVE IT! (sorry for the bad video, but this is the version I used.
  13. Light My Fire – Jose Feliciano  3:35 – Way better than Doors version, sexier. Spanishier.
  14. Come Rain Or Come Shine – Judy Garland  3:44 – Todd doesn’t like this song, but he will grow to love it. I will make him. Something about the drums he doesn’t like, which boggles the mind because, like, hello, the drums are the killerest intro to this song! I think this proves once and for all that he’s straight.
  15. Too Darn Hot – Mel Tormé  2:47 – More Cole Porter, by my third favorite standards male vocalist, next to Harry Connick, Jr. and Bobby Darin.
  16. From This Moment On – Mel Tormé  1:46 – More more Cole Porter.
  17. Les étoiles – Melody Gardot  3:18 – A blind woman from modern-day Philly, yeah right….
  18. “A” – You’re Adorable – Perry Como & The Fontane Sisters  2:26 – More on this song lata.
  19. A Case Of You 3:31 – Prince – I like where Prince chooses to start this Joni cover, I like where he goes with it, I like how high pitched he gets, I like it.
  20. Blinuet 4:35 – Zoot Sims – Rushmore soundtrack played a prominent role in the events of the wedding day, as you can plainly see!
