– The song reached #10 on the Billboard charts in early 1982, displaying some of the characteristics of a blend of disco and funk, with the title of the song repeating continuously.

– The song was released in the UK on the British charts on 19 December 1981 on the record label De-Lite and reached #3, their highest chart hit in the UK at that time. It spent a total of 12 weeks in the charts before drifting out of sight.

– Ten years later it was re-released in the UK charts on the record label Mercury but only reached #69 and was on the chart for only one week.

– The 1997 single “We Just Wanna Party with You” by Tim Baker and Snoop Dogg, featured on the Men in Black soundtrack, heavily sampled this Kool & The Gang single.

– 98 Degrees sampled this song in “Do You Wanna Dance” on the album 98 Degrees and Rising. (2000)

– It was also remixed in 2000 by the Italian electronic/eurodance group Eiffel 65.

– British Boy-band Blue covered the song, and released it in late 2004 in the UK and in some European countries as the second single taken from their compilation album Best of Blue. It is also their final single released together as a band, as they split up in December 2004. The song also features on Kool & the Gang’s remix album The Hits: Reloaded.

– The Timbaland song featuring Magoo, “Boardmeeting”, contains a sample of the song.

– The song has been covered by Blue, Lil’ Kim, Ernie Smith, and by Wayman Tisdale on his jazz album Way Up! (2006).
