INTERESTING FACTS (a la wikipedia)

– The Dirty Heads is a reggae rock band from Southern California.

– Their debut album, Any Port In A Storm, was released on September 23, 2008, by Executive Music Group (Fontana/Universal).

– The band’s name comes from an occasion where the two were stealing a 12-pack of beer, and someone shouted at them “Come here you little dirty heads!”

– The album features appearances from legendary Beatles collaborator Billy Preston, as well as Josh Freese (session drummer for Nine Inch Nails and Korn), percussionist Alex Acuna, Jamaican dancehall legend Tippa Ire, and Indie 103.1 reggae host Native Wayne (on “Stand Tall” and “Neighborhood”). The song “Check the Level,” also includes renowned guitarist, Slash, as well as renowned Heavy metal vocalist, M. Shadows. The album was mixed by Beastie Boys producer Mario C.

– The Dirty Heads have toured the U.S. multiple times with bands such as O.A.R., 311, Pepper, Kottonmouth Kings, Unwritten Law, Matisyahu and Sublime with Rome.

– The band has also been part of marketing campaigns for Etnies Jeans and Vestal Watches.

– The Dirty Heads were among the first bands featured on YouTube’s Raw Session. The set included a cover of Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida.”

– Their First single “Stand Tall” was featured in the Sony Pictures film Surf’s Up.

– “Lay Me Down” was featured on the MTV show Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory.

– The song peaked at #1 on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart.

– Billboard’s Connor McKnight wrote in April 2010 that the song is a “solid contender” for song of the summer. McKnight compared the song’s opening to that of “Hope” by Jack Johnson, and said the song “lifts the energy with chugging guitar riffs, a freewheeling chorus and feel-good lyrics delivered with rhythmic punch”. David Hall of The Orange County Register listed it among the band’s “positively charged, island-influenced tunes … which ride on the coattails of similar acts like 311 and Slightly Stoopid”.

– The song was included on Rolling Stone’s “Hot List” in early 2010.

– In March, the single entered the Billboard Alternative Songs chart at number 24. It reached #1 in May, and nine weeks later it established a record as the song with the longest stint atop the chart for an independently released title, surpassing the previous mark set in 1999 by Everlast’s “What It’s Like”.

– “Lay Me Down” peaked at #93 on the U.S. Hot 100 and #76 on the Canadian Hot 100 chart.

– The Dirty Heads performed the song on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on May 13.
