SONG OF THE DAY
“Alone” – Heart (Bad Animals, Capitol Records, 1987). Written by Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly.
INTERESTING FACTS (from wikipedia)
– The song is not an original by Heart; it is a cover. It first appeared on a pet project by composers Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly’s called I-Ten, Taking a Cold Look in 1983. It was later recorded by John Stamos in his role as Gino Minelli, on the original soundtrack of the CBS sitcom Dreams in 1984. Heart made it a hit in 1987. Twenty years later, Céline Dion recorded it for her album Taking Chances.
– “Alone” is Heart’s biggest hit, spending three weeks at number 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and ranking number 2 on the Billboard Year-End Top Pop Singles of 1987.
– Paula Abdul was choreographer for the video.
– The song has been performed as a power rock ballad (Heart’s arrangement) in five different seasons of American Idol.
MY TAKE
I just watched tonight’s episode of Glee, and there was a fantastic scene with Kristin Chenoweth [eek! I love her!] & Matthew Morrison doing karaoke to this song. A-mazing. I can’t believe I forgot to include this song in my earlier Heart-loving blog about “Barracuda”.
Faithy sent me this amazing video of a So You Think You Can Dance performance to this song. Check it out!:
Thanks, Faithy!
