– This is the first solo album from Mick Hucknall, the fiery red-headed lead singer of the band Simply Red.

– The album is a entirely a collection of songs in tribute to the blues singer Bobby Bland.

– A DVD was also released along with the album. It contains a documentary which was filmed in Memphis, Tennessee in November 2007.

– Hucknall is also one of the founders and financial backers of the successful reggae label Blood and Fire. He also manages the record label simplyred.com which produced this album.

– Hucknall says of Bland: “His music has this sophistication to it, a jazz tinge. There’s also the darkness of his lyrics – Bobby sings with a really twisted pain and sorrow. He’s one of the vocalists who influenced my singing style long before I became a slave to pop success”.

Along with Johnny Depp, John Malkovich, and Sean Penn, Hucknall part-owned the Parisian restaurant-bar Man Ray.
